City of Temple Opens Application Period for Housing Improvement Program
The City of Temple’s Office of Community Development will offer minor home repair assistance up to $5,000 (depending on scope of work) for individuals requesting assistance through the City’s Housing Improvement Program (HIP). Minor Repair and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) assistance may be provided to homeowners residing in structures determined by City staff to be detrimental to the health and safety of the homeowner.
The sole intent of the assistance is to help eliminate hazardous situations or code violations. Examples of eligible improvements include items such as plumbing or sewer leak repair, electrical system repairs, furnace/heater repairs, water heater replacement, exterior door replacement, roof repairs, flooring repair, rotted wood replacement, broken windows or other code-related violations that are of a minor nature. ADA repairs and/or provisions can include reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities such as handicapped ramps, handrails; grab bars, bathroom modifications, door alterations, etc.
The HIP Minor Repair/ADA assistance will be available city-wide to eligible low-to-moderate income homeowners and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applicants requesting funds must meet the following guidelines:
Applications and Guidelines for the Housing Improvement Program can be picked up, filled out and submitted during the entire month of March, March 1, 2017 to March 31, 2017. You can pick up or print the application in the link below and return it completed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday at 101 North Main St., the Historic Post Office, in downtown Temple. Information provided will be kept confidential.
No application will be accepted after the March 31st deadline.

All required documents listed below must be attached to the application. (Applications without required documentation and information will not be accepted):
1. Copy of Driver’s License, or appropriate ID.
2. Copy of a utility bill.
3. Copy of Social Security Card of all household occupants
4. Income Verification (copy of check stub, W2 form, social security award letter, pension, child support, unemployment)
5. Proof of Ownership - Deed to principle residence or mortgage loan documentation, tax document, (Bell CAD information), or copy of an official signed and filed purchasing contract.
- Assistance is only available to Low to Moderate Income individuals (see chart below for income eligibility). Total household income cannot exceed 80% AMI.
You must own or be purchasing your home, and it must be your principal residence.
Residents must live inside the city limits of Temple, TX.
Residents cannot be delinquent on property taxes or owe the City money from a previous project or bill.
